She changed my world in August 1992. She was my dream and my joy. I needed her more than she needed me.
Trenecia, (Necia), Alford was a senior at Rust College perusing her undergrad degree in Biology. Her plan was to go on to get her graduate degree in the medical field. Going into the last semester of her undergrad program she was driving home from work early one morning and fell asleep at the wheel. Her car ran off the road. She finished her life at the tender age of 21. Her wings were ready but my heart wasn’t.
She always wanted to help others. She wanted to take in every stray animal she saw and give to every less fortunate person she saw. This belief drove her to pursue her degree in order to have both an education and means to fulfill her goal in assisting the less fortunate. She felt that everyone was equal and the only difference was that some had help and others didn’t. She wanted to be that help.
My wife and I felt giving back in the name of my daughter would be healing to me so we founded Necia’s Healing Hand. We have been feeding approximately 300 – 350 of the less fortunate in our community on the first Saturday of each month for the past year.
Feeding the Homeless ~ Giving a Hand-Up, Not a Hand-Out.
My wife and I are very thankful that we could start this organization which will enable us to reach out to friends, family, and neighbors in which we would otherwise not be able.
